Steven Johnson

Steven Johnson is a brilliant cross-disciplinary thinker who applies broad-ranging research and creative thinking to interesting social problems and comes up with intriguing and important insights into how we live and learn, work and play.
Both social critic and technologist, he’s written several popular books on the intersection of science, technology and personal experience, three of them national bestsellers. His writings have influenced everything from the way political campaigns use the Internet, to cutting-edge ideas in urban planning, to the battle against 21st-century terrorism.

His most recent book, published in October 2006, is The Ghost Map: The Story of London’s Most Terrifying Epidemic—and How It Changed Science, Cities, and the Modern World. This gripping account of the 1854 cholera epidemic in London and its real-life hero lessons for us about some of the issues that define the modern world today.

Steven was cofounder and editor-in-chief of FEED, the revolutionary web magazine blending technology, science and culture with a truly innovative interface.

He is a contributing editor to Wired magazine and writes the monthly “Emerging Technology” column for Discover magazine. Steven is a Distinguished
Writer In Residence at the New York University Department of Journalism.

   
Brendan O'Malley

Brendan O’Malley is the Chief Information Officer of Tasty Baking Company. Brendan led Tasty Kake’s SAP implementation and is currently working on the development of a next generation mobile sales application for the company. In his three years at Tastykake Brendan has modernized almost every component of the technology infrastructure leading to significant cost reductions and higher service levels. Before coming to Tastykake Brendan worked at Price Waterhouse, PwC and IBM as a business and technology consultant. He has more than ten years of experience leading and managing business software projects. Brendan has worked with a variety of applications and technologies including SAP, Oracle, and PeopleSoft.

Brendan spoke at SAPPHIRE and ASUG about IT transformation and implementing preconfigured software. He has been featured in Consumer Goods Technology, and Mobile Enterprise magazines speaking about IT transformation and mobile applications.

Brendan is a 1990 Graduate of Princeton University and has an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. Brendan is a former US Army Airborne Ranger. He resides outside of Philadelphia with his wife and 3 children.

Allan is GSO’s Director of Technology; he is directly responsible for all corporate technology services including network infrastructure (voice and data), software development and customer data integration.

Allan’s key role on the executive management team to set strategic technology initiatives aimed at improving the GSO’s competitive position and operating efficiency in the overnight delivery market. Allan directly manages GSO’s information technology team in all aspects of the development, implementation and support of these initiatives.

Allan joined GSO during it’s founding in 1995, and holds a Bachelors Degree from the University of Western Ontario.

Brenda Lewis

Brenda Lewis has over 25 years of experience as an entrepreneur, venture manager and business strategist. In 1982, she formed Transactions Marketing, Inc., a venture manager for mission critical enterprise services which has successfully launched 16 greenfield wireless data services. Specializing in “bet the farm” management of pilots, betas, start-ups, re-structures and first round institutional funding, Ms. Lewis has in-depth expertise in location services, CRM, billing and OSS, logistics and financial services markets. Among other pioneering applications, in 1984 Ms. Lewis launched PDQ for Telerate™, the first wireless quotation service in the money markets (FM-sub carrier). In 1996, she managed the first professional financial services trial on AT&T's Pocketnet™ (CDPD). In 1998, she organized and implemented the first live wireless Internet conference to due diligence standards. In 2001, she launched the first privately funded wireless data service in China. Prior to founding Transactions Marketing, Ms. Lewis had a 15 year corporate career as systems analyst, project manager and marketing officer in international energy, bulk shipping and aluminum with Exxon, Marine Management Systems and Pechiney Ugine Kuhlmann. In 1974, she was on the Exxon team that designed and launched the first global interactive satellite vessel communications and control system.

Ms. Lewis graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics Honors from Smith College, and holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut. She earned a certificate in Telecommunications Management from New York University and is a graduate of Harvard Business School's Program for Management Development.

Paul is in his 29th year at PSE&G. Throughout his career he has been in both field operations and support. His current position finds him responsible for the design, implementation and support of all IT related systems PSE&G uses. He was the project manager for both the SAP and Mobile data solutions at PSE&G. His expertise in field operations is a great asset when designing functionality that meets the needs of the business. Storm response and reliability are paramount to the success of PSE&G operations and the mobile solution used is a large contributor to that success. Paul has been instrumental in getting PSE&G considered as one of leaders in the utility industry with respect to their mobile application and use.

Jasyn Voshell is IT Senior Auditor with Textron. A computer security expert, Voshell oversaw the wireless and mobile security of Lockheed Martin as well as served as policy author for Lockheed’s security engineering and integration services for over 6 years. Voshell currently audits wireless systems, network perimeter, and security systems as well as general controls reviews for information technology. Voshell is versed in encryption technology, penetration and vulnerability analysis of various security technologies, and information technology security research. Voshell has addressed audiences at Frost and Sullivan Mobilize Summit, the Kappa Mu Epsilon national conference, Texas Tech Health Science Center, and Lockheed Martin Corporate Headquarters.

Voshell holds certifications as a Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA), Certified Wireless Security Professional (CWSP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). He has a bachelor of science in mathematics from St. Francis College in Loretto, PA and masters degrees in mathematics and computer information systems from Texas Tech University and Phoenix College respectively.
