AT&T Introduces New Wireless Data Plans
By Jeff Goldman
AT&T has announced two new wireless data plans, offering its customers a choice of 200 MB of data for $15 per month, or 2 GB of data for $25 per month.

Current AT&T smartphone users will have the option of keeping their current plan or switching to one of the new ones.

That's the good news. The bad news is that, for all new customers, unlimited data plans will no longer be available. On the 2 GB plan, each additional gigabyte of data used will cost $10.

Still, according to Consumer Reports, the average BlackBerry user only accesses about 54 MB of data per month -- and so one key benefit for the vast majority of users will be increased affordability.

"AT&T's strategic pricing move is great news for BlackBerry smartphone customers," says RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie. "We envision a day when all mobile phones are smartphones, and we believe AT&T's new service plans, together with RIM's leading portfolio of BlackBerry products and services, will help attract a much broader range of consumers."

The new plans will available beginning June 7, 2010.
