Desktop Access Delivered

Accessing e-mail from the palm of your hand no longer falls into the swanky, elite category for most. Today’s users want not just e-mail, but a complete mobile desktop solution with security to boot—all for less than the price of dinner. If you find yourself nodding your head in agreement, a new solution from Sproqit Technologies offers an easy way to satisfy your wishes with dollars to spare.

Sproqit Personal Edition is a full-featured Outlook companion for PDA and smartphone users. It enables the owner to access Outlook, as well as any other desktop functions, from a handheld device. Sproqit lets you browse the network, send and receive attachments, access contact and calendar programs, complete tasks and compose notes. And rather than go through a middleware server (and incur monthly charges), Sproqit provides a direct connection from desktop to handheld.

Unlike Web-based or terminal applications, Sproqit works when it’s not connected, allowing users to type in tunnels, under bridges and in cavernous conference rooms. It will automatically sync when a connection is detected. Security concerns are allayed by 128-bit SSL encryption.

In our test, the software was easy to setup in just a handful of minutes and ran smoothly. With two devices running Sproqit, I was able to send an e-mail from one device to the other in less than 10 seconds, affirming its speed claims. Another benefit is that it uses native UI controls, so as not to confuse a user comfortable with the layout of a particular program like Outlook. All applications remain on the desktop or server, which means they are not constrained by devices with resource limitations. A budget-buy will work just as well as the top-of-the-line model.

Priced at $8.95 per month, Sproqit offers a very accessible price point for users who can’t afford the thousands necessary for enterprise solutions with high up-front costs.

Desktops running Windows XP, 2000, ME and 98 SE can use Sproqit to support devices running Palm OS 5.2.1, Pocket PC 2000, 2002 and 2003. For more information visit www.sproqit.com.
