By Teresa von Fuchs

According to authors James Alexander and Mark Hordes, s-business, or the service side of business, is becoming an increasingly important realm for every enterprise’s future. With tech titans like IBM and GE shifting from pure product plays to performing more services, expanding into s-business is something all companies should be thinking about. In their new book, Alexander and Hordes claim: “No organization of any size, in any market can afford not to implement an s-business strategy.”

S-Business promises to provide business leaders with a comprehensive and succinct outline for understanding s-business strategies, enabling leaders to determine whether moving into providing more services is the correct approach for their organization and how to establish implementation strategies. Key discussions approached in the book are how to set benchmarks, create goals and harness best practices, strategies and methods for meeting evolving customer needs.

According to the authors, “S-business is a strategy, an enterprise-wide mindset, a new template for the global business community and a golden opportunity.” Alexander and Hordes are partners in Alexander Consulting, a management consultancy that designs and implements strategies for professional service organizations. •
