Consumers have now downloaded more than one billion Android apps to their smartphones from Google's Android Market storefront, according to a recent estimate from analytics provider AndroLib.com.
Google opened Android Market about two years ago.
Android Market still trails far behind Apple which it is estimated has generated more than 5 billion apps from its App Store, but the upswing in Android downloads is believed to be a reflection of growing developer and consumer interest.
According to AndroLib, Android Market now has about 92,000 applications, and is on pace to surpass the 100,000 benchmark by the end of July 2010.
